Once again International legal center EUCON<\/a> endorsed the idea of running and sponsoring of VI All-Ukrainian tournament on classic legal debate, which took place on 22-23 May 2015 at the Faculty of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.<\/p>\n

The main topic of this year’s tournament was the annexation of the Crimea and the moot court case regarding submitting a claim to the European Court of Human Rights for damages caused by Russia to Ukraine (in particular, to the University of Kyiv) with annexation of the Crimea.<\/p>\n

The tournament was attended by teams – representatives of universities in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Sumy and Chernivtsi. The oral rounds of the tournament were interesting and dynamic. Especially it was fascinating to watch on the team which presented the legal position of the defendant – Russia, due to the fact that it is difficult for Ukrainian lawyers from ethically and from a professional point of view to defend its interests.<\/p>\n

As a result semifinals of the qualifying rounds were 4 teams. In the final, panel of judges awarded the victory to the teams headed by Dudarenko Valeriya and Oleg Stoev (1 master year of the Faculty of Law at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) that demonstrated a thorough professional erudition and vivid declamatory skills.<\/p>\n

Such tournaments are necessary and useful to students, as they allow them to practice the knowledge of substantive and procedural law, to participate in moot courts (simulating arguments before the courts). Therefore, the International Legal Center EUCON <\/a>intends to continue to support the running of tournaments that enable future lawyers to apply their knowledge and to practice in defending an own position before the moot court.<\/p>\n
